quem, de fato, tentou fazer com que ramal do trem chegasse a Campina foi o dinamarqu\u00eas Cristiano Lauritzen, que por duas vezes viajou ao Rio de Janeiro, as suas pr\u00f3prias custas, para tratar desse assunto com as autoridades do Governo Federal. [&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Em julho de 1904 o Presidente assinou o decreto mandando efetuar o prolongamento da estrada de ferro at\u00e9 Campina Grande, e Lauritzen, de tanto contentamento, saiu de casa em casa na cidade convidando todos, inclusive seus mais ferrenhos advers\u00e1rios para uma festa que ele promoveu em comemora\u00e7\u00e3o. [&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Como todo importante ato hist\u00f3rico, a chegada do primeiro trem \u00e0 esta\u00e7\u00e3o de Campina Grande, no dia 02 de outubro de 1907, foi marcada por uma grande presen\u00e7a popular e festa, com banda de m\u00fasica e fogos de artif\u00edcios. Na recep\u00e7\u00e3o, al\u00e9m de uma comitiva da empresa Great Western, estava o prefeito Cristiano Lauritzen acompanhado de Lino Gomes, Major Juvino de Souza do \u00d3, professor Clementino Proc\u00f3pio, o vig\u00e1rio Monsenhor Sales, Dr. Chateaubriand de Melo, o jovem tribuno Dr. Afonso Campos e outras importantes autoridades locais que fizeram presentes neste dia hist\u00f3rico, em que, ao longe, o apito anunciava a t\u00e3o esperada chegada do trem \u00e0 Rainha da Borborema.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Desse momento em diante, Campina passa de uma cidade pacata do interior da Para\u00edba para uma cidade pujante, pois o trem trazia consigo o progresso, na mobilidade entre as capitais Recife e Jo\u00e3o Pessoa, no transporte de mercadorias, em especial o algod\u00e3o, que rendeu a Rainha da Borborema o t\u00edtulo honor\u00edfico de Liverpool do Brasil e na chegada de empreendedores que viram em nossa cidade a possibilidade de crescer economicamente.<\/p>\n<p>BRITO, Vanderley de; STEINMULLER, Maria Ida. <strong>Hist\u00f3ria de Campina Grande: de aldeia a metr\u00f3pole<\/strong>.
